THE FAIR HAVENS HOME
The Fair Havens children’s home was founded in 2004. The children mainly come from State children’s homes or straight from hospitals.
Many children are sick on arrival: they have heart diseases, intestinal problems, cleft lips that have not been treated, severe disabilities or handicaps. Due to these, some of them are underfed and tiny.
Fair Havens strives to take care of the children’s physical, mental and social welfare. Many children have to undergo one or even several surgeries, and as a result, they have to spend time in the hospital. Despite this the good and loving care the children receive brings healing. The children at Fair Havens are happy, contented and active – each according to their abilities.
The operations of the children’s home are financed primarily by Finnish sponsors. We cannot assign a particular child to the sponsor because the children usually stay at the children’s home only a few years. We are committed to finding foster homes for them either from China or from abroad.
During these ten years, there have been well over a hundred children staying at the children’s home. From 9 different countries, people have adopted some of them. Many foster homes keep in touch with Fair Havens even years after adopting the child.
The recommended fee for sponsoring a child is 35€ / month. If you want to become a sponsor or otherwise support our work in China, please contact Elina, our Sponsor Secretary: +358 50 566 6534, email: firstname.lastname@example.org
The staff of Fair Havens consists mainly of young girls who themselves are recovering from traumas they have experienced in their lives. The girls come from very poor backgrounds in Chinese villages where some of their relatives are even starving. Many of the girls have had difficult experiences in their childhood and in their youth; some have even been victims of rape and abuse.
As they live and work in the Fair Havens orphanage they are both in “Bible school” growing in their faith as well as in a practical service of love as they look after these small disabled children who are in need of tender care.
The leaders of our work in China, Jean and Paul, take part in the activities of various churches. They visit churches in different parts of China speaking and encouraging Christians to serve in love and to devote themselves to intercession. They are invited to the meetings of the “Three self” church as well as to smaller gatherings. They also feel that it is an important task to encourage and counsel married couples.
You are welcome to join us for a week-long team trip to China. During these trips, we get to see i.a. the Fair Havens children’s home supported by One Way as well as Beijing. You can inquire about the timing of our next trip from the coordinator for China missions.
